Henderson Waves

You know the feeling. You might be walking down a sparkling beach or hiking through a picturesque park when BAM! your afternoon is ruined by some garish man-made obstruction.

It must have been exactly this frustration the RSP Architects Planners and Engineers in Singapore had in mind when they designed Henderson Waves, the center point of Southern Ridges—a 9-kilometre trail that connects Mount Faber Park to Telok Blangah Hill Park.

What makes this pedestrian bridge so unusual? Glad you asked.

  1. Design: It’s not called Henderson “Waves” for nothing. The bridge is wrapped in undulating curved “ribs” of steel, creating an organic wavelike effect rolling through the sky.
  2. Balau Wood Benches: These waves aren’t just for show. They function as backrests for some of the craziest benches you’ll ever see. Seriously. Show us a crazier bench, and we’ll give you your own Sharky Award for your elite detective skills.
  3. Height: Standing tall at 36 meters (118 feet) above sea level, Henderson Waves is the tallest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. Instead of blocking the landscape, it enhances it. From this height, visitors can soak up a magical view of the Singapore skyline that will dazzle and amaze.

But, really, it isn’t any singular thing that makes Henderson Waves so special. It’s the energy that went into every nuance of the experience—from the way the rising and falling steel waves mimic a snake’s body to the remarkable view to the height markers on every bench.

Worried about the humidity? You’re in luck. Not only is Southern Ridge Trail open in the evenings, but the bridge itself is illuminated at night, making your stroll between the interlinked parks truly spectacular.

Whether you spend an hour crossing Henderson Waves or only ten minutes, this inspired, sharky structure will stay with you for years to come.
