Kuala Lumpur City, Malaysia
Bukit Tabur

Not for the faint of heart, this challenging hill offers up some stunning rewards.

Contrary to popular belief, Bukit Tabur is not an easy morning climb for the casual visitor. It takes a bit of grit, and a fair amount of determination to make it to the top. If you do decide to make the trek, you will undoubtedly be richly rewarded. A hill situated in Selangor, Bukit Tabur is part of the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge. Also known as the ‘The Dragon’s Backbone’, a name awarded to it with reference to its long, protruding ridge that spans 16 km, the hill is arguably the longest crystal quartz outcrop across the globe!

Though just a short distance outside of the city centre, being at the summit of this hill feels like you’ve been transported into what the area looked like before civilisation caught up. And I mean that in the best way possible. An early morning excursion would culminate in a view of countless mysterious peaks set against a gorgeous backdrop of reds, oranges, pinks, and the occasional streak of blue. With superb panoramic views of the serene Kluang Gate reservoir and the Kuala Lumpur skyline, the trail along Bukit Tabur is perfect for those who yearn to get out of the hustle and bustle of city life. So long as you prioritise your safety, keep your wits about you, and are both mentally and physically up for the challenge, this taste of nature is well worth the effort.
