Leeds legend Norman Hunter dies of coronavirus aged 76

Norman Hunter, the Leeds United legend and a member of England’s 1966 World Cup winning squad, has died at the age of 76.

Leeds issued a statement earlier today confirming that the former defender had lost his battle with coronavirus after being admitted to hospital last week.

He made 726 appearances for the club over more than 14 years, his combative style earning him his “Bites Yer Legs” nickname and a place in Alf Ramsey’s squad as an understudy to Bobby Moore and Jack Charlton.

Hunter won 28 caps, but it was at Elland Road that he enjoyed his greatest success, emerging as a central figure in the Leeds side that secured two First Division titles and victories in the FA Cup and the League
