Norman Hunter, the Leeds United legend and a member of England’s 1966 World Cup winning squad, has died of coronavirus at the age of 76.

Hunter, whose unflinching style led to him affectionately being nicknamed “bites yer legs”, died in hospital after being admitted last week.

In a statement, Leeds United described the former defender as “one of the greatest centre-backs the game has ever seen”. During a 14-year career for the club, Hunter played 726 matches and was a central figure as it secured two First Division titles and victories in the FA Cup and the League Cup.
