Bizarre conspiracy theory suggests Postman Pat was a womaniser who fathered all children in Greendale goes viral
It points to the fact all the kids in the village share his long nose and thick, curly red hair, despite their parents' locks being different colours
HE made some special deliveries in his time, but now a bizarre conspiracy theory suggests Postman Pat was doing much more than dropping off post.
The proposition doing the rounds on social media is that the cartoon postman was a womaniser who fathered half the kids in Greendale.
According to a Twitter user, it's Pat's distinctive long nose and thick red curly hair that gives the 'Lothario' away.
Despite their parents having different coloured locks, many of the children in the village share his distinctive features - suggesting the postie is their real dad.
Along with a picture of Pat next to a classroom scene from the local school, Twitter user @AnDuinnineach posted: "Postman Pat is the only red head in Greendale. This is the village school. #PatMustard #HairyBabies."
He followed it up with a further tweet featuring Jeff Pringle and his auburn-haired son Charlie, with the caption: "Open your goddamn eyes Jeff."
The tweets quickly went viral, with several sharing their own take on the controversial theory.
Tomkles wrote: "That explains why he's such a happy man... got f*** all to do with the singing birds."
Andrew Beaumont tweeted: "I've been saying this for years! The whole thing's fishier than Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's waders!
"In one episode, Pat spontaneously gives the doctor a convertible car. Blatant hush money."
And Tracey Swann joked: "Doesn't the song for the end credits ask 'can you guess what's in his sack??' Definitely a Special Delivery Service."
One person who wasn't impressed and defended the beloved children's character was comic Stephen Mangan, who tweeted that @AnDuinnineach needed to keep his big mouth shut.
The actor recently voiced the character in Postman Pat: The Movie.
