What is Taffeta Fabric: Properties, Applications etc

Taffeta fabrics originated in France in the 1930s and later spread to China. In 1950, the taffeta products of the factory were exhibited for the first time in seven European countries on behalf of China and became a sensation in the European market. From 1955 to 1959, the production and sales of taffeta hit a record high. In 1981, the British royal family had ordered 14 hides of 420 yards of dark green lotus taffeta for Princess Diana to make her wedding dress. Once again, the international market has created a taffeta wave.

Taffeta Fabric is a light, crisp, and smooth plain fabric made of silk or copper ammonium rayon. The word is derived from the Persian word meaning "twisted weave". It is considered a "premium" fabric for ball gowns, wedding dresses, and upholstery fabrics such as curtains or wallpaper. It is also widely used in the manufacture of corsets and bodices and has superiority over other fabrics for shaping.

What Is Taffeta Fabric? 

Taffeta, also known as taffeta silk, is a kind of cooked woven high-grade silk fabric with a plain weave. The warp yarn is made of double twist silk, and the weft silk is made of single twist silk in parallel, with the plain weave organization as the ground. The density of the weave is high, and it is one of the closest varieties of silk weaving.

How Is Taffeta Fabric Used?

Taffeta is considered to be a luxury fabric, and it's fairly prone to damage. thus, it is not generally used in everyday apparel on the negative, it's more common to see this type of fabric used in big-ticket vesture like marriage dresses and evening wear etc

Taffeta is occasionally used to make stuffings for jackets and fleeces.

Beyond vesture, taffeta fabric is also used to make a number of consumer particulars. such as screens are generally made with this fabric, and taffeta fabric is also used to make certain forms of sequestration. In addition, this substance is occasionally used to make handbags and the filling in sleeping bags, and during World War II, this fabric was generally used to make parachutes.
