Traditional Nonya Kueh Shop at Hougang

Hello lemons 🍋,

I stumbled upon this kueh shop while I was out and about for work , I ended up buying almost $30 dollar worth of kuehs 😂 here’s my review after trying ☁️

Every item was a It’s a Hit or Miss so let me break it down for you 💭

Rainbow kueh $2.50- 2/5 texture is amazinggg, so bouncy so soft & I think it’s quite cheap for 4/5 pieces ( comparing to bengawan solo ) but taste-wise , I feel bengawan nicer. This one tasted more sugary than coconut-ty so for those who doesn’t like things too sweet , it’s a no 👎🏻

Ang Ku Kueh $2.80 - 2/5 again the texture super soft but the bean paste filling very sweet… 🤷🏻‍♀️

Peanut mocha $3.00 - 5/5 this is good !! mochi-like texture, super soft !!! The filling for this isn’t too sweet too with crunchy peanut bits inside , I love it !! ✅

Ondeh ondeh $2.50 - 3/5 the ondeh is soft , the filling is coconuty but I love a hot ondeh ondeh so when it’s “cold” … idk just don’t taste that nice 😅 I rather the ondeh from maxwell food centre !!

Rice tao $4.00 for 5 PCs - 4/5 I bought this home to pan fry before eating and it’s nice when it’s all crispy outside !! Kueh wrap is soft , rice filling inside is decent ( got taste but can be more flavourful ). I prefer the rice tao from ah yee’s at tembeling area ! That one 6/5 hahaha

Jelly ang ku kueh $4.00 - ?/5 I never try this but my mom love it and she will buy everytime she see until. Essentially it’s agar jelly / crystal jelly with red bean paste filling shaped into Ang ku kueh.

Fried carrot cake $2.50 - 4/5 this is also nice but must pan fry at home because not crispy not nice ley… but it’s a very basic carrot cake whahaha

Some I bought double of which is why the bill close to $30

OVERALL, it’s a traditional brand-name kueh shop so it’s worth a visit if you’re nearby. Price is reasonable cheap I feel compared to those at shopping centre.

Many many older folks flock around the shop ordering way more than I did so I’m sure it suits their tastebuds 🤭
