Sen. Christopher J. Dodd became Connecticut’s longest serving U.S. senator on Feb. 21, 2007, breaking Sen. Oliver Platt’s record of 26 years, 1 month, and 18 days. Dodd was contemplating a run for the presidency at the time, and appeared on The Daily Show (see the page from the Courant about his Daily Show appearance here). He decided instead to leave political office, ending his 30 years as senator on Jan. 3, 2011.
