Visitors pass the front of a replica Noah's Ark at the Ark Encounter theme park in Williamstown, Ky.

Nearly six years after its highly publicized announcement, a northern Kentucky attraction based on the saga of a man who built a massive boat after getting an end-of-the-world warning from God is open to the public.

Noah's Ark, whose centerpiece is a 510-foot-long, mostly wooden boat, opened this month in Williamstown, a small town south of Cincinnati.

"I believe this is going to be one of the greatest Christian outreaches of this era in history," said Ken Ham, the president of Answers in Genesis, the ministry that developed the attraction. The group says the ark is built based on dimensions in the the Bible.

Inside are museum-style exhibits: displays of Noah's family along with rows of cages containing animal replicas, including

even dinosaurs.
