AMT AlloySlik’s exclusive A.M.T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum. The legs are lighter weight yet stronger than the standard metal used in most of today’s tripods. A.M.T brings the tripod weight closer to a carbon fiber tripod of the same size. |
Maximum HeightThe PRO 500 series gets the camera to eye level on most people. With the center column raised the tripod reaches just over eye level to up to 60.0 inches without a head. |
Industry Standard MountThe PRO 500 series tripods have an industry standard ¼-20 thread mount to attach a wide variety of heads from Slik or many other manufacturers. |
Flip LocksThe SLIK PRO 500 series makes setting up easy with secure yet fast speed release flip leg locks that do not snap back at you when locking. One finger operation is all that is required to open or close each leg lock. |

Product Description
PRO 500 DX legs in black color A.M.T. super Aluminum-Magnesium-Titanium alloy legs make tripod rock steady, yet lighter than it looks. The A.M.T. alloy has a 40% greater strength to weight ratio than standard aluminum, allowing the tripod to approach the weight of comparably sized carbon fiber tripods without the added cost. The PRO 500 DX black is capable of supporting the weight of professional digital cameras and heavy telephoto lenses up to a 300mm f/2.8. This complete tripod offers advanced amateurs and student photographers the strength and stability they need, while its size and the use of A.M.T. alloy make it lighter and more portable than many professional offerings from other manufacturers. The PRO 580 DX black tripod makes setting up easy with secure, speed-release leg locks, gearless center column and 3-position, adjustable angle leg locks allow easy set-up on uneven ground or steps. The PRO 500 DX black center column is actually two threaded pieces that unscrew to convert the top piece to a short column. This combined with the adjustable leg angle locks allows the tripod to be lowered to just 15 inches for very low angle or macro photography in the field.

What I wanted was a good solid tripod that allowed easy precise adjustments and could handle some weight from a telephoto lens. Oh yes, and I did not want to pay hundreds of dollars for it. Upgrading to this tripod opened up a new world of photographic possibilities.
My first use was to shoot video. It pans smoothly. Adjusts with ease. And, it helped produce a very sharp professional video with everything framed perfect. The quick release allowed me to take the camera off the tripod to review the shot while someone else set up the tripod for the next shot. Camera goes back on with a nicely designed snap that closes when the camera is set on the base. Quick and secure.
Since it was Spring, my second task was flower and blooming tree shots. Also some time shooting multiple exposure HDR shots. No camera movement for either. I really love the separate adjusting arms. I can lock in the horizontal plane then adjust the vertical without having to recheck level. This is a huge time saver.
Summary of benefits: Legs adjust height quickly, legs easily change angle to accommodate low or add angle shots, one hand operation to attach camera to tripod (once quick mount is attached to camera), solid build, can adjust tension on all adjustments, easy to switch from portrait to landscape, adjusting arms allow for locking on plane while adjusting the other, nice carry bag
Pros: Its Heavy and Durable
Its easy to use with clip telescoping
Easy to clean with wide thick parts
Nice Pan / Tilt Feature when you figure it out
Holds a lot of weight- So far I have a 6D with bat pack/ flash / large lens.
Cons: Its heavy
Limited instructions.
Its a tad short for a 6 foot guy but its workable.
I needed something durable that could do what I needed to get done and one that would not rust out immediately and break from slight pressure and this one foots that bill. It feels solid, quality, durable and with some TLC I am sure it will last me a very long time. I cannot say enough about this tripod. I love it. Before I think I spent roughly 1,000 on various mid level and entry pro tripods and they have all failed (except a Targus for some reason... That thing has been beaten to near death and still works fine, would not trust it with my Full frame but yeah)
Fantastic Product (I included a bracketed panorama I took with this by using the panning feature)
