I bought this kit and a Lego power pack system so my son could make his creations move. I found the normal Technic pieces we had were insufficient to have reliable drive. The play in them (yep they are getting worn out) would allow the gears to pop out of alignment. Also our floors seem to disagree with one wheel drive as the cars would never go straight. This nice differential setup solved all my woes.

The only thing that is REALLY weird about this is its 5 "nubs" across. As most people know, Lego pieces only come in even numbers. So you end up having to make quite a large vehicle to offset this device and the motor to provide symmetry.

Okay, if you're a smart guy used to assembling LEGO toys, you might not have a problem. But... but... what if you're not?
