The Magelang Regency Government (Pemkab) has officially banned hare or odong-odong trains from operating on the highway.

Secretary of the Magelang Regency Transportation Service, Mashadi, said the ban was issued because odong-odong did not have a permit and there was no guarantee of safety or insurance for passengers.

"The keyword is that the vehicle must be roadworthy, because the relation to public passengers is number one is safety," said Mashadi after an audience with the Magelang Tourism Train Association (PKWM) in Magelang, Thursday, February 9, was confiscated by Antara.

He conveyed that the point is that public transportation of passengers and goods must be licensed. The licensing process is in the One Stop Integrated Service Investment Service (DPMPTSP).

"What kind of modification do you want, as long as he (rabbit train) tests his type has to pass and then has a type test certification, of course we can't stop it," he said.

However, Mashadi mentioned that there were exceptions. He said odong-odong can still operate but only in tourist areas. The operation, he continued, should not go out on the highway.

"It means that in the tourist area, for example in the Borobudur Temple area only. If there is a night market, it can only operate in the night market area. So it is not allowed to go out to the highway, let alone use it for public transportation to outside the city," he said.

Therefore, the Magelang Regency Transportation Service is currently conducting socialization and guidance to bus train entrepreneurs.

Mashadi said that so far, technically, bus train owners have never conducted a type/KIR test (motor vehicle eligibility test) at the Magelang Regency Transportation Service.

"But in plain view, the license plate is not clear, then the vehicle body is also unclear, which means it is not roadworthy," he concluded.
