Life History of Sarojini Naidu

Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13th, 1879, in Hyderabad, British India, to a Bengali Hindu family. She displayed exceptional talent in poetry and literature from a young age.
As a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi, she played an instrumental role in the Indian National Movement, which fought for the country's independence. Many well-known Indian politicians, including Gopal Krishna Gokhale, admired Sarojini Naidu's poetry.
Sarojini Naidu stands out among other poets due to her exceptional ability to employ her words as an instrument for social reform.
She was actively involved in India's independence movement and utilized her poetic talent to enlighten people and motivate them to fight for their rights. Her verses were brimming with themes of patriotism, feminism and social justice.

Political Journey

During the 1930 Salt March, Sarojini was arrested, along with other Congress leaders such as Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Madan Mohan Malaviya for participating in the Civil Disobedience Movement and the Quit India Movement.
She faced repeated arrests by the British authorities and was even imprisoned for over 21 months (1 year 9 months).
In 1925, she was appointed as the President of the Indian National Congress, and in 1947, she became the Governor of the United Provinces. In turn the first woman to hold the office of Governor in the Dominion of India.

Bharat Kokila

Sarojini Naidu is a renowned writer who gained worldwide recognition as "BulBule Hind" after publishing her collection of poems, "Golden Threshold," in 1905.
Her poetic talent earned her the title of 'the Nightingale of India' or 'Bharat Kokila' by Mahatma Gandhi, who appreciated the color, imagery, and lyrical quality of her poetry.
Naidu's poetry includes compositions for children as well as those written on more serious themes such as patriotism, romance, and tragedy.
Her poem "In the Bazaars of Hyderabad," published in 1912, remains one of her most popular works.
