Sarojini Naidu was an independence activist, poet, and political leader. Born on February 13, 1879, in Hyderabad, she was also known as the Nightingale of India.

Naidu was the first woman to become the president of the Indian National Congress in 1925. She was also the first woman to become the governor of an Indian state, serving as the governor of the United Provinces (present-day Uttar Pradesh) from 1947 to 1949.
