Earlier…

I was out and about early that morning to go to the car wash (it rained FINALLY the day before) and when I was done, I felt like having some roti canai.

My sister is a regular at this one…

…here (her house is a stone’s throw away) – obviously, she likes it enough to keep going back and I hear she also buys the frozen freshly-made ones from the lady to fry and eat at home whenever she feels like it.

I had the roti telur banjir (RM4.00)…

…which basically was just roti telur drowned with curry gravy. It was very nice but I would prefer the roti and the gravy to be served separately and I would dip one in the other as I eat. Yes, I did enjoy it but I think I prefer the one I had here – I liked the dhal dip that they gave there.

It so happened that my old friend, Affendi (who works there), came along and he asked me why I was not having their celebrated sup tulang (RM17.00)…

I said that I did not know it would be available so early – in the past, one would have to wait till almost lunchtime, around 11 but Affendi said that due to popular demand, they are serving it earlier now so one can get to enjoy it early in the morning.

I had the sup tulang with their kampua mee kosong (RM6.00)…

…which was very nice but OUCH! The price tag!!! It sure was a lot more expensive than the non-halal ones at the Chinese shops and stalls.

The sup tulang

…was very nice, fall off the bone tender and I particularly loved the soup which was bursting with flavours. It definitely was nicer than the ones we had here or here. However, I was too full already from the roti telur and the mee…so I took my tiffin carrier from the boot of my car and took most of it home for everybody to enjoy.

That certainly was a delightful breakfast and a very heavy one at that – I could only eat a bit for lunch that day. I must say that I liked how they placed the chairs and coffee table outside the coffee shop…

…for customers whose nicotine level was running low. LOL!!!

DAPUR AZRA (2.308398, 111.819744)…

…is located at the shops at Simpang Tiga, along Lorong Kuda 2, back to back with Bisonte Grocer & Deli, facing Jalan Kampung Nangka and the road leading to the one-time ferry point.

  1. As the name suggest, they have to drown the roti canai telur in the curry gravy. Same thing apply to nasi banjir. Having said that, I too like the gravy to be served separately. The soup tulang looks great.

It’s as good as it looks!

  2. Roti telur banjir looked tempting but like you, I prefer the gravy to be separately. Now I am craving for roti telur. Lol.

Well, it’s not named the world’s No. 1 flatbread for nothing! Always enjoy eating it!

  3. I like roti banjir at times…. I will pour all the gravy into the roti canai but sometimes I just like to dip.. the kampua noodles with soup tulang is certainly very cheap! Over here most noodles are almost RM10.. even wanton mee at certain shops cost 9.90…

Cheap??? OMG! RM10.00 for a bowl of noodles? *pengsan”

  4. That roti telur banjir sounds absolutely delectable, and your description of it being drowned in curry gravy made my mouth water! 😋 I totally get why you prefer the roti and gravy served separately though, it’s all about that perfect dip. 😉

It’s so nice to hear that Affendi was able to catch up with you! 🙌 I couldn’t help but laugh when you mentioned the sup tulang being available earlier due to popular demand. It just goes to show how good it must be! But oh my, that price tag for the kampua mee kosong did catch me off guard a bit. 😅

Why? Was it cheap or expensive compared to noodles in Melaka? Your wan tan mee…or Hakka mee, how much would they cost per bowl? This one was without meat – shouldn’t be more than RM4.00 at the Chinese stalls.

  5. I can imagine how heavenly the sup tulang must have tasted though, especially with your description of it being fall-off-the-bone tender and bursting with flavours. 🤤 And how considerate of you to bring the leftovers home for everyone to enjoy!

I was so full I could eat only a little. It would be such a waste if I did not bring the rest home.
