1. Bereket Kebab & Turkish Cuisine

Bereket Kebab & Turkish Cuisine is nestled within Kopitiam on the fourth floor of Compass One.

Chef Gokhan Toprakci, originally from Turkey, embarks on his inaugural culinary venture by establishing his very own food stall. Hailing from a family that operates an authentic Turkish cuisine restaurant in his hometown, Chef Gokhan received personal mentorship from his father, honing his skills in both the family recipes and restaurant operations.

The Lamb Shank Mandi Rice (S$15.90) was a delightful marriage of aromatic long-grain rice and 8-hour long slow-braised lamb shank.

The basmati, delicately scented with star anise and an array of ambrosial herbs, was beautifully complemented by the inclusion of cashews and sultanas. Meanwhile, the lamb was exquisitely fork-tender and devoid of any gaminess. The dish was accompanied by a fresh chopped salad and a bowl of broth containing the fatty bits of the lamb.

For dessert, there were the usual crowd-favourites like Baklava (S$9.90) and Kunafe (S$9.90). We also tried the Asure Noah’s Pudding (S$7.90), which according to Chef Gokhan, is the oldest dessert in the world.

It was a wholesome bowl of sweet soup filled with all sorts of fruit, nuts and grains such as almonds, macadamia, hazelnuts, dried figs, barley, chickpeas… the list goes on.

The next time you’re shopping at the factory outlets of IMM, head over to Kopitiam @ IMM Jo Leong Yong Tau Foo for some Malaysian-styled goodness.

Partners, Johan and Soon Leong, hail from Petaling Jaya and Hulu Selangor respectively. Believe it or not, they crossed paths when Johan’s wife ran a Filipino food stall (listing #5) next to Soon Leong’s yong tau foo stall at Kopitiam @ Hillion Mall.

If you’re in a mood for something more bold and exciting, you can top up an additional S$1.20 to have your bowl of yong tau foo with Tom Yam or Laksa gravy instead.

The Tom Yam delivered a delightful blend of sourness, spiciness, and a hint of sweetness, all in one tantalising package. I loved it when my pieces of beancurd roll and wanton had soaked up all that flavoursome tom yum broth— it created a satisfying eating experience.

The Laksa, on the other hand, transported me to the world of Nyonya cuisine with its rich, creamy, and coconut-infused goodness. It unquestionably claimed the title of my favourite dish from the stall.

Don’t forget to dip your pieces of yong tau foo into the homemade chilli paste (brimming with the rich essence of shrimp) and their fried shallots in oil.

Priced at just S$12.90, the Superior Beef Noodles truly shined with beef slices, shank, tripe and tendon, all harmoniously nestled atop a generous bed of thick bee hoon. A piquant dark gravy cascades over this ensemble, followed by a delightful garnish of peanuts, salted vegetables, Chinese celery, and a calamansi wedge.

Every component of the dish exudes the pinnacle of beef perfection, boasting a sublime tenderness and rich, enticing flavour. As the noodles intertwined with the savoury gravy, crunchy peanuts and tangy pickled vegetables, I was reluctant for each mouthful to come to an end.

The kitchen of Simply Noodles at Kopitiam Corner @ Vista Point is helmed by ex-hotel chef, Ben Tan, who had been working at an established hotel in Orchard Road for 6 years.

Chef Ben brings his wealth of expertise to the kitchen, crafting a unique soup concoction using pork big bones, ikan bilis (anchovies), and soya beans. The star attractions on the menu include the Lor Mee (S$4.50), Signature Noodle (S$6.50), Laksa (S$4.80), and Mini Wok Noodles (S$6.00).

The dry Signature Noodle had a bed of lettuce supporting the mound of mee kia, fishcake, crab stick, 1 meatball, pork slices, mock abalone and 1 fishball topped with slices of chilli padi, fried shallots and spring onions.

While the noodles were delicious on its own, it was the unassuming side broth that truly dazzled my taste buds. The unpretentious-looking soup was a hidden gem, bursting with an explosion of tastes. Thankfully, the stall generously provides complimentary soup refills for those of us who just can’t get enough (count me in!).

The Mini Wok Noodles featured a pot of broth atop a small burner to keep it piping hot. The soup contained fishcake slices, crab sticks, mock abalone, 1 fishball, pork slices, minced pork, 1 pork ball, and a cracked egg.

The soup was creamier than the clear broth I had earlier due to the added egg and I had a good time slurping it up together with all the ingredients in it. The broth, enriched by the golden embrace of the egg, exuded a velvety texture. This bowl of goodness will be comforting to have on a cold, rainy day.

MS BBQ started during the pandemic at Kopitiam @ Hillion Mall in May 2021. Prior to opening the stall, owner, Emee, dedicated herself to perfecting the unique Inasal chicken recipe during the pandemic period.

A standout offering on the menu is the Inasal Chicken BBQ with Rice (S$7.50), a true must-try. The BBQ chicken’s flavour evokes memories of the renowned Philippine fast-food chain, ‘Mang Inasal.’ This delectable dish is crafted with a marination process that includes traditional Filipino ingredients such as zesty lime, savoury soy sauce, and aromatic garlic.

There’s also the Bistek Tagaloc with Rice (S$6.50) which is quintessentially thinly-sliced beef steak braised in soy sauce, calamansi juice, garlic, ground black pepper, and onions cut into rings. It is a common staple in the Tagalog and Western Visayan regions of the Philippines.

There are also other delectable options on the menu like Fried Tilapia with Rice (S$8), Sour Milk Fish Soup with Rice (S$8) and Crispy Chicken Skin (S$5).
