Iris Apfel launching glasses line

The eyebobs Iris frame

Iris Apfel is teaming up with eyewear company eyebobs for an affordable glasses line.

The 90-year-old American fashion icon is rarely seen without her signature round spectacles, which have inspired glasses-wearers for decades.

Fans will now be able to recreate her look thanks to an ‘eyebobs by Iris Apfel' line, which will include reading glasses, sun reading glasses and polarized shades.

WWD reports that Apfel has already begun work on the collection, with prices ranging from $75 to $99.

The line will launch in 2013, although those who can't wait that long will be pleased to hear that a limited edition frame inspired by Apfel, entitled the Iris, will be available from January 2012.

Available in three colors, the Iris will retail in selected stores and at eyebobs.com with international shipping. Proceeds will go towards worldwide organization Lighthouse International, which is one of Apfel's favorite charities and helps fight against vision impairment.

Apfel's fondness for oversized accessories has influenced the former interior designer's career choices a great deal of late.

In September she launched a jewelry line called Rara Avis for the Home Shopping Network, while jewelry designer and 2010 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Accessory Designer of the Year winner Alexis Bittar revealed in July that he's working on a collaboration with her.

A jewelry collection that includes some of Apfel's own vintage pieces is also currently available at online fashion boutique yoox.com.
