A Photographer's Blog

Building My 1st Macro Flash Diffuser.

One thing I learned after shooting and researching on macro photography is the importance of light. Why? Well, with aperture setup between F8 to F16, we can’t really rely on natural light. Some photographer even pushed to the maximum aperture of F32. I have read quite a number of articles on this from experienced macro bloggers and one thing in common that they have is the use of flash and diffusers. Most of them are custom made which produced different results.  Most of the results are very good and some even produced magnificent macro photos. Since I am still new in this subject, all I really need at this time is a diffuser that can light my subject well. Maybe one day after gaining experience in this field, I might naturally develop the interest to actually fine tune my lighting. All I need at this time is to build a DIY flash system that would extend my lighting as close as possible to my subject with diffusion. After looking through some of the DIY shared in the internet, I have finally decided to try to construct one myself based on simplicity and effectiveness of the design (I think). Thanks to Turerkan Ince for the design that this project is based on and you can check out his blue print  here. I didn’t precisely follow the original schematic and it took me a few hours to figure everything out and build the thing. This is how it looks like after completion and attached to my camera.

My 1st DIY Macro Flash Diffuser.

So far, I have not yet had the chance to try this setup and when I do, I will surely update with some photos. Cheers!
