JENSEN BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — Things should be looking up for some screech owls in a nest, way near the top of a new power pole in Jensen Beach.

Actually, they’re still eggs, but they’ll become screech owls.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said they were discovered by workers from Pike Electric who removing an old utility pole.

Those workers called the sheriff’s office’s Animal Services division, and they came up with an idea to move the owls while keeping them safe.

Utility worker Josh Hamel installed a donated bird house onto the new pole, facing the same direction as the original location.

Then, he carefully relocated the screech owl eggs with the help of Officer Shannon McGee and his Pike colleagues.

Now, the sheriff’s office reports, old pole is gone, the nest was not compromised, and Jensen Beach should soon be home to some new baby owls.
