Tanya Chua dismisses plagiarism accusation

27 Dec – Tanya Chua has recently spoken up to express frustration over allegations that she has plagiarised Taylor Swift's song in her new album, "Kisses for the World".

As reported on Apple Daily, the singer, who took to Weibo to express her feelings about the accusations, shared that it is one of the biggest nightmares for a singer-songwriter to have people accuse them of copying other people's work.

Tanya reminded people of the time her song "Red Heels" was similar to The Weepies' "Take it From Me", saying that it was unconsciously done, as it was the creation of a moment of inspiration.

As for her new song, "Halfway", which was accused of being copied from Taylor Swift's "Safe and Sound" - which is also the theme song to Hollywood movie "The Hunger Games", Tanya stressed that she doesn't see the similarities at all.

"Writing a song should be free and casual. If you really have to worry too much about it, then you lose the fun and meaning of writing songs," she said.

To dissatisfied netizens she said, "If it makes you uncomfortable, please don't listen. Just stick to the songs that make you comfortable."
