I shop all over the five boroughs of New York City and I am particularly partial to visiting the multitude of ethnic enclaves we have in this sprawling metropolis. Little India is one of the spots that I wander too anytime I'm around East 23rd in Lexington because I know I can a count on them to have jalibe that is not soggy and great gulab jamun. There's a mice selection of chai teas, organic spices, puja lamps, incense, Indian hair treatments. They have a robust frozen food section. The samosas are a little dry but overall it's a good shopping experience. They don't bother me or follow me around the store when I'm shopping which is, I realize rare enough that I'm really beginning to appreciate the courtesy. The store is bright and impeccably clean.

I recently had some problems with this store - can any one explain how a store can charge on people's credit cards the amount more than what's in the receipt? I have never encountered this situation at any single store anywhere else.

It's very creamy, less sugary, and has a very sophisticated little taste of spice. Once you taste it, you will know what I am talking about. The one with cashew and raisins is my favorite and this store has a full collection to try. Beside ice cream, there are just so many other Indian stuff to explore at this ethnic store. I think it's truly the privilege of living in New York to be able to try all kinds of things from different cultures. Your curiosity and craving for adventures will always be satisfied, just within a few blocks.

Little India Market is a refreshing change from the stores on Lexington Avenue. The aisles are wider, there is a larger assortment of products (where else can you find long-grain wheat mamra?!) and it is just a better shopping experience.
Do not expect bargain-basement prices here. You are paying for the convenience. But I only wish all products had prices marked. Some reviewers complained about buying expired products. I have not had that experience. On a related note, I would not buy prepared foods or "fresh" produce from grocery stores that are not turning their inventory quickly.
All said, I think the convenience x price x assortment works for me. YMMV.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Jan 22, 2023
If you live in Manhattan and need Indian groceries, this market might be it. They offer everything from spices, snacks, skin/haircare, to frozen foods and dried lentils. Pricing is high (compared to what you'd pay in Jackson Hts.), but it is Manhattan and you pay for convenience. They had samosas for $1.50 each if you want a quick snack to eat. Clean & organized, they seemed well stocked. Located in Murray Hill near all the Indian restaurants.

This place should be a national treasure. Clean and well stocked, seems they package their own produce such as curry leaves and cilantro so as to maximize freshness. Really unfortunate that this is the closest place from Brooklyn that has curry leaves but my trips here are always worthwhile with its variety of items and fresh samosas to boot. Noticed some negative reviews on Yelp from a year ago; fortunately service seems to have improved... prices are a tiny bit higher than it's smaller competitors but greater selection makes it easier to get my shopping done in one place

This store was originally located on 28th Street between Park and Lex before the pandemic, but when I passed by last year, it seemed like they shut their doors for good.
I was happy to find out recently that they are up and running but have relocated to 3rd Avenue.
I would say there are about three Indian markets in the immediate vicinity. The place is spacious and well stocked. Just about everything you might need (in my case, I was looking for a long grain basmati rice and spices) for a recipe or just in general may be found at Little India Market.
Aisles of fully stocked necessities and goodies filled the store.
Many unrecognizable to me. The gentleman/owner who is behind the counter was helpful when I had questions about some products.
This store is large, clean and bright.
I am happy to know that it's still around!Helpful 30Thanks 0Love this 28Oh no 0 - H M.New York, NY3224May 14, 2023
Great local shop for staples and more gourmet ingredients. When I need a last minute spice or lemon this place is a lifesaver. And I've discovered many new food ideas here.

rather expensive. poor customer service (think 7-eleven).
yes, it is newer and the isles are wider than the stores on lex. so what? another few blocks west do not make a big difference. uncaring customer service does.
even though, this place is the closest to us, we avoid it. of course, shopping in queens is much better. but if cannot get there, dont bother with this market. just shop on lex. tried & true.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 25, 2020
Thank god this place is open! I had gone 6 weeks or so without paneer, after the last time I ordered pickup from Kailash Parbat. And I wasn't about to venture to Jackson Heights or Jersey, so I walked up to 27th street and took my chances.
And there it was - bountiful dahi and paneer, maggi of all flavors, frozen vada and idli, Haldirams-brand frozen parathas, and all varieties of sev for concocting some homemade chaat. I even bought some frozen dhokla which I've yet to test.
Main zaroor vaapas aaoonga, covid ke baad bhi!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Aug 2, 2019
While not nearly the size of Kalustyan's, this "little" market has a white variety of cheaper Indian goods along with a lot of British Cadbury chocolates. Just be a be careful with the expiration dates for certain products as per a lot of other similar stores.
The place is good and would fit nicely an avenue up as well. The man in front is nice as well. Upper 3.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
