      Absolutely CHARMING hotel!

At the advice of a friend, Husband and I made Singapore a sort of pit stop en route to our honeymoon destination, to acclimate to the time and weather. I must say that I mistreated you, Singapore. You're a destination all by yourself.

I was initially drawn to this hotel by the name :-P. C'mon...it's my honeymoon!! Ok, mind out of gutter now. I'm not a big fan of high rise hotels, and I appreciate old colonial architecture. Goodwood Park has both those attributes.

Our flight arrived at 7am. Normally, check-in is at 2pm. The front desk graciously allowed us early check-in, free of charge! We must've looked pitifully tired, or more likely homeless and they didn't want us loitering in the lobby. Whatever their reason, after 21 hours on a plane, Husband and I were SUPER appreciative of early check-in to take a shower and catch some blissful z's on a bed.

Wifi is fast and dependable. Even better, the room comes with a cell phone - calls to the US are included. Ceiling fan in the room could use a little WD40, but the creaky noise kinda went with the old-school charm haha.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to eat on site. We were so out of it, we missed restaurant hours. Thankfully, Far East Plaza is next door, a bazaar of all sorts, including a life-saving 7-Eleven.

Location is fantastic. It's within walking distance of Orchard Road, Newton Hawker Centre, and a movie theater where we caught a showing of Avengers: Infinity War.

It was my wife's mission to try all the durian moon cakes during our trip to Singapore. Unfortunately, due to our limited time she ended up only trying the top 2 rated durian moon cakes in 2014.

First up was the Marriott's which she thought was good until she tried Goodwood Park's black thorn moon cake. I'm not a fan of durian but she savored every bite of the two she bought. If only these things would keep for more than 3 days in the freezer and if we had enough dry ice to last for the trip back to the U.S. I'm certain she would try to smuggle them back. She didn't try the MSW version as she would have had to eat all 4 herself and it was the black thorn that took the crown for the best in 2014.

To quote her...Goodwood Park definitely has "the best of the best durian moon cakes." I'll just have to trust her on this. If you are a fan and want too see what the hype is all about...head straight to Goodwood Park for their black thorn moon cake.

Quiet cozy heritage hotel at the outskirt of Orchard road. Location is super convenient if you are intending to be around Orchard. There's a bus stop outside that you can catch a bus to Newton food centre. Or walk down to the Orchard MRT station that leads you to other part of Singapore.

The service crew were great and helpful. They knew that our room is not at the main wing, thus offering a buggy to bring us there.

The parklane suite that we stayed is big enough for 2. There's a huge fridge hidden in the kitchen's built in cupboards. There's microwave, oven that you can whoop up a meal! There's even a dining table that I can have a meal at. It's simply like a studio apartment. Perfect for people who are here for work.

The door is alittle creaky given its age. This suite is due for an upgrade.

Goodwood park has a number of dining options that you can dine in. There's an alfresco seating are at L'Espresso, which is facing the swimming pool. It is clean and inviting.

Just commenting on their deli on the main level...

      Durians puffs!!!

And possibly the best mooncakes in Singapore. And of course, the annual Durian fiesta-- a buffet of entirely durian based desserts. What could be better? I honestly can't think of anything!

Besides that, Goodwood Park is an absolutely gorgeous, historic hotel, in the vein of the Raffles Hotel.

Sometimes in life you get an opportunity to indulge in luxury and my trip to Singapore was one such opportunity. When trying to figure out which hotel I should make my home-base during my stay, there were so many options that my head began to spin. Then as I narrowed the choices down one by one, the Goodwood Park Hotel kept calling me. There is so much history behind the hotel that it is considered a heritage hotel. Not to mention that it is also a five-star establishment that is frequented by individuals with much deeper pocket than mine. So, the frugal and smart traveler that I am, I was able to enjoy the lap of luxury for an (slightly) affordable price. For the experience, the service, and comfort I couldn't have done any better.

I arrived at the hotel for a late check-in. The front-desk concierge was welcoming and friendly. He knew that I was tired and expedited the whole check-in process. The manager on duty that evening happened to be at the front desk and proceeded to give me a complimentary upgrade to a junior suite. I didn't do anything but say good evening to the gentleman and he went out of his way to make my stay even more memorable. My suite was located next to one of the swimming pool which allowed me to take a dip either early in the morning before I explored Singapore or late at night to relax my aching body. The suite that I was upgraded to consisted of a living room, a master bedroom and two bathrooms. The master bath was beautifully adorned with marble with a tub and shower on opposite ends. It was one of the largest master bathroom I've ever seen in a hotel. The guest bathroom was also just as beautifully adorned and was located next to the living room. The master bedroom consisted of a king size bed and incredibly comfortable ergonomic pillows. The room was also equipped with a coffee maker while the living room had a portable espresso machine to start the day off right.

I could go on and on about how great this hotel is but seeing is believing. I hope that travelers looking for a place to stay while in Singapore seriously consider Goodwood Park Hotel. It may not be the cheapest option, but it surely is one of the more memorable ones. And because of that, I have no qualms about staying here once more when I make a return visit to Singapore.

If you are looking for a unique durian moon cake then you MUST come here. They have a black thorn durian snowskin moon came. Omg is it amazing. The flavor is nothing I have tasted before. My mouth was so happy I had to do a little happy dance. They do sell other snowskin moon cakes but the one complaint I had is you have to buy minimum of two pieces for each flavor. They did have assorted four piece but flavors are ready set.
They allowed you to sample everything but the black thorn durian one. I did not sample their traditional moon cakes but must be very good because shelf like is just 5 days. No preservatives added.
When I go to Singapore again I will be back doe more of their snowskin moon cakes. This time I am going to have more than just two. Highly recommended the black thorn moon cakes!!

Been here at least thrice over the years. Excellent suite for parties. The room is clean however the TV needs some upgrading. Giving a higher rating for the great memories developed here.

The location is in town and Goodwood park is known for their durians mooncakes during the season.

There is something about family styled hotels that is both nostalgic and comforting. so yes do patronise

While Goodwood Park may be famous for their durians, do you know that they sell pastries and bread too? Occasionally, I do make trips down to the Deli shops to check out if there is any new items and most likely I would not go back empty handed.
Here are some of the items the month of March

The Vanilla Raspberry Charlotte ) is a creamy vanilla mousse layer which sat on top three Swiss rolls that are filled with raspberry jam. The mousse layer was faultless but the rolls at the base were a little too sweet.

Pandan cheesecake truly surprised me with a lighter than NY cheesecake texture but yet not too mousse-y and airy like the Japanese style. Furthermore, the red beans that are studded on the sponge base were big like kidney beans but not too sweet. The aromatic pandan smell simply whiffs into your nose in every bite.

Had my very first Cronut from the bakery here today. Oh sorry... Dou-ssant. Yea.. sure. Cronut. It was filled with the custard. This tasted divine and I feel incredibly guilty for having this delectable treat. The bakery also offers yummy durian pastries worthy of the stink bomb durians emit. I like the one with macadamia nut crumble.

I've been coming to Goodwood Park hotel growing up in Singapore in the 90s. High tea at both the coffee lounge and deli lounge, dim sum at Min Jiang, and Taiwanese porridge at the coffee lounge for suppers with my family. This hotel is classic and a mainstay on Scotts Road. I hope this hotel remains the same for many years to come. Its always nice to revisit old haunts that have remained the same. When so much changes in Singapore since I last lived here in 2001, I am thankful that Goodwood just made minor upgrades to keep up to date but not lose its old school flavor.
