Singapore, the smallest country of Southeast Asia, but certainly do not underestimate this little one! Singapore is the most developed country of Southeast Asia. This destination has been on our bucket list for a long time, so we were very curious about what this country has to offer. In this blogpost you will read more about our highlights of Singapore! Our highlights of Singapore
Gardens by the bay
I know, this is a classic, but Gardens by the Bay remains our number one attraction of Singapore. Gardens by the bay is a huge 101 hectares garden with so much more than the famous luxurious hotel of Marina Bay Sands.
OCBC Skyway and Supertree Grove
The OCBC Skyway is a 22-metre high bridge between a few supertrees. On this bridge you have a beautiful view of the impressive parc with the biodome. Most supertrees, namely 12 out of 18, can be found at the Supertree Grove. When the night falls, the Supertrees come to life with a spectacular light and sound show at 7:45pm and 8:45pm. The supertrees light up in every color you can imagine and dance to the music. This show lasts about 1 hour and is really worth the visit Gardens by the Bay. Moreover, it is completely free, so you better be on time if you want to get a good spot! There are no seats, so most people put themselves on the floor. Note that we are still in Singapore, which is one of the cleanest cities in the world

The Rooftop Bar
In the top of the highest Supertree (which is 50 meters high) is a restaurant and rooftop bar located, where you have a spectacular view over the Supertree Grove, Marina Bay Sands and the center of Singapore. The best time to visit this Rooftop bar or restaurant is around sunset.

Cloud Forest
Gardens by the Bay and cloud forest is part of a strategy by the Singapore government to transform Singapore from a “Garden City” to a “City in a Garden”. It is the largest glass biodome in the world and also the most reviewed attraction in Singapore. I’m not going to deny that Cloud Forest (& Gardens by the Bay) is a tourist attraction, but you simply can not skip it.
When you enter the Cloud Forest, you almost bump into the 35-metre man-made mountain with an impressive waterfall. The mist creates a kind of fog, which generally creates a cool-moist tropical Montane region.
Fact: Every day there is a fog show at 10 am, 12 am, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm and the last one is at 8 pm. Go before it goes dark, because it loses its charm.
Entrance: $28 for both Flower Dome & Cloud Forest, $ 16 for only Cloud Forest. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance (near the drop-off station) or at the Cloud Forest or Flower Dome itself.

Flower Dome
The Flower Dome is the second highlight of Gardens by the Bay. The Flower Dome has 1000-year-old olive trees, unusual Baobabs, various cactus and tropical flowers from both subtropical- and cool-dry Mediterranean regions. I didn’t know there are so many special and colorful plants in this world! This is also one of the only places where you can find all those plants from all corners of the world in one place.
Tip: I would recommend taking an audio guide, if your knowledge of fauna and flora is not so extensive.

Sentosa, Mega Adventure Parc
Sentosa is the 4th largest island in Singapore and also one of the oldest parks in Singapore. There are 3 ways to reach the island:
– Sentosa Express: take the Sentose Express from VivoCity, lobby L, level 3 (the largest shopping center in Singapore) to the Beach station on Sentosa. Here you can take the free Sentosa beach tram, which goes along Siloso Beach Road.
– Cable car: Take the cable car from Mount Faber or Harbourfront Tower 2 to Singapore Cable Car Station at the Imbiah Lookout. After this you can take the bus at Imbiah Lookout bus stop or just walk
– Car / taxi: You can take this at ‘Beach station car parc’ or ‘Siloso Point’.
Sentosa is an island resort with one large amusement park with all kind of cool things to do as a megazip, -cliff, -wall, jump, -bounce, Universal Studios Singapore, Skyline Luge, Madame Tussauds, 4D Adventure Land, … This island is completely man-made, which is pretty overwhelming. It is really nice for families with children to escape the city life.
First, we chose for some adrenaline with the MegaZip, this was also the first time we went ziplining. The MegaZip of Mega Adventure Park starts at 75 metres high and you go 450 meters along a cable, over the water, to a small island. This is an activity that is accessible to everyone, you do not have to be afraid to do this.
Inside tip: If you are looking for a nice place to have lunch, go to ‘Ola beach club‘. A trendy club, located on the beach with fine cuisine!

The Cable Car to Sentosa island
Chinatown
The population of Singapore consists of expads, Malaysians, Indians and Chinese. All these different cultures have their own place in Singapore, where you can find and learn about their tradition and culture. Chinatown is one of the largest ethnis enclaves in Singapore, so we decided to visit this first.
Chinatown is easily accessible by public transportation, you just drive to the stop ‘Chinatown MRT Station’. If you step off the metro, you will immediately be immersed by the different smells and colors that hang out in the cozy streets of Chinatown. In the famous Pagoda street are numerous traditional shops, cafes and souvenir shops. Do not forget to visit Chinatown Food street and the impressive Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum. This traditional Chinese temple is quite impressive, especially because it is surrounded by these huge skyscrapers that form the skyline of Singapore.
Haji Lane
A tiny lane, hidden away in the heart of the Arab street with a selfie shop. This place is also known as the hotspot for hipsters with its various local designers, traditional fabrics, artistic cafes and bars. The small houses with different colors and the many murals make Haji Lane a photogenic and cheerful place. Did you know that Haji Lane is one of the only places in Singapore where graffiti is allowed

We did a coffee stop in the Haji Lane in a very special coffee house … namely in a Selfie Coffee! This small bar in the Haji Lane makes personalized coffees with a photo of you on the spot. How this exactly works, you’ll see in the video!
Practical tip: A coffee costs on average $ 7 – $ 9, which is quite pricey, but it is personalized

Lau Pa Sat
Lau Pa Sat is a historic building from 1894 located in the in the center area of Singapore and is ‘the place to be‘ for street food. It is not only very populair by the locals, but also by the tourists! There are several of these ‘hookers’, how they call these food corners, which can be found throughout Singapore. You can taste different original Chinese, Indian or Malaysian dishes in the building itself or on the street. The street closes at 6 pm for all traffic and is transformed into a real street food place.
Opening hours: You can go here every evening from 6 pm for a real food court experience!
