Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon stunned viewers in 2000 with its breathtaking fight sequences. More than a decade and a half later, its sequel looks to inspire a similar reaction.

In an exclusive featurette, the cast and crew of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny go behind the scenes of the film’s martial arts stunt work.

“As someone who has many years of experience doing these types of films, I know the difficulty of making these movies,” says veteran martial arts movie actor Donnie Yen. “The action in this film is quite innovative.”

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee helmed the first one, but isn’t back for round two. Instead, longtime action choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping (The Matrix, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Drunken Master) steps up to direct.

In Sword of Destiny, the first film’s protagonist Yu Shu Lien (played by Michelle Yeoh) surfaces from her retirement from fighting. She takes up an apprentice (JuJu Chan) who’s keen on using a powerful sword; however, an evil force seeks to steal it and use it malevolently.

On-set snippets reveal the many wirepullers and choreographers necessary to nail the distinct Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon combat aesthetic. “It’s all people that are doing it, so it has a gracefulness and a fluidity to it that you don’t find in Western movies,” executive producer Ralph Winter says in the clip.
